Hairong Wang
Greetings!
I am an incoming assistant professor in the Operations Research & Industrial Engineering program at the University of Texas at Austin. I received my PhD in Operations Research from the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech, where I am fortunately advised by Prof. Jing Li. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, I received my BA in Mathematics from University of Oxford.
My research focuses on developing knowledge-informed, data-efficient machine learning models and algorithms, and pursuing their practical applications in addressing pressing, high-stake clinical challenges. Specifically, my work develops and leverages tools from machine learning (ML), generative artificial intelligence (AI), large-scale optimization, and high-dimensional statistics to:
Develop data-driven methodologies for building and training machine learning models with data and computational efficiency, interpretability, generalizability, and robustness.
Propose principled approaches to fuse domain knowledge into model design for assisting clinical diagnosis/optimal treatment in high-stake scenarios (e.g., brain cancer, liver cancer, Alzheimer’s Disease, etc.).
⭐ We are actively looking for motivated PhD students to join our research group! If you have a background in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related fields, and enjoy solving real-world problems, you are welcome to apply. For more information, please check the ORIE PhD program at UT.
⭐ Visiting students and summer interns are also welcome to join the group!
